Course 8 - Disability Equality Training
1 day course

The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 requires public bodies to eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment against disabled people and to promote equality of opportunity between disabled people and other persons. For the first time, OHS are able to offer Gallant 2000 and the Social Inclusion College accredited courses (the only accredited Disability Equality training courses in Great Britain) to all Public Sector Bodies within the areas of Manchester South, Stockport, Warrington East, Bradford, Harrogate and Halifax.

There is a choice of two courses for Disability Equality training: A 1-day course on Disability equality matters (DEM) or a Disability Equality Certificate (DEC) 6 part course over a 6 month period.

Aim

This course aims to turn around previous understandings of disability awareness that had focussed on impairment to instead promote disability equality. The 2005 Act states a duty to promote disability equality for the public sector by December 2006.

This course will promote disability equality and provide delegates with an insight into practical access issues and how the DDA affects service providers and service users.
