A 2-day module following the British Occupational Hygiene Society syllabus, designed to cover the fibre counting of asbestos air samples.
The syllabus involves a written examination and a practical assessment, testing the ability to mount filters, prepare slides and set up a microscope; achieve a RICE category A or B performance on 8 former RICE slides; and carry out relevant calculations. On reaching the required standard, delegates are awarded the BOHS P403 Proficiency Certificate.
This module provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting of asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM).
Delegates will have a detailed knowledge of the approved methods for fibre counting and have an understanding of their limitations and the requirements for quality control.
Anyone undertaking asbestos air sample analysis using phase contrast microscopy (PCM) in an IS017025 accredited Laboratory.
Successful completion of the course and examinations will provide a recognised qualification in asbestos air sample analysis.
The course is tutor led using classroom presentation and laboratory-based practical work.
